ITINERARY (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

Day 1: Welcome to the Lakes

1.00pm — Welcome, tea & cake

We’ll meet at the beautiful Windermere Manor Hotel for a proper Lake District welcome, a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a chance to meet your fellow swimmers.

We’ll run through the weekend ahead, get to know the group and make our plan for the first swim, taking into account the weather, water quality and conditions.

First swim, Windermere

Then it’s time to get wet.

We’ll head to a quieter beach on Windermere, England’s largest natural lake, where you can choose your own adventure. Fancy a quick dip? Brilliant. Want to stretch your legs and swim a couple of kilometres? We’ll support you with that too.

Our qualified guides will be on hand throughout, helping you get the most from the swim while showing you some of the beautiful corners of the lake.

All swims are subject to suitable weather, water quality and conditions.

Back to the hotel, settle in

After our first adventure, we’ll head back to the hotel for showers, a little downtime and a chance to settle into your room before the evening's activities.

Swim coaching with Mel

Then it’s into the hotel pool for an optional swim coaching session with Mel.

This relaxed session is designed to give you some useful skills and techniques that you can take into the rest of the weekend, whether you’re looking to improve your stroke, swim more efficiently or simply feel a little more confident in open water.

Dinner

We’ll finish the day with dinner at the hotel, with a lovely choice of dishes and the all-important option of a starter or dessert.

Then it’s time to relax, chat and get some rest, tomorrow starts early.

Day 2: Sunrise & waterfalls

Sunrise swim, Windermere

There’s something pretty special about swimming as the Lake District wakes up.

We’ll start the day with an early-morning sunrise swim on Windermere, taking in the stillness, the mountains and the changing light across the lake.

Afterwards, we’ll head back to the hotel for a well-earned breakfast.

A great Lake District adventure

Once we’re fuelled up, we’ll head out into the Lakes to explore one of the region’s incredible bodies of water.

Depending on conditions, we might find ourselves swimming at Rydal Water, Ullswater or another beautiful location, perhaps exploring a quiet stretch of shoreline or swimming around one of the lake’s islands.

And if conditions allow, we may even land on an island for a little stretch and explore before heading back to dry land.

Cake. Obviously.

No Lake District adventure with us would be complete without something delicious, so we’ll find a suitably spectacular setting for some of Mel’s glorious cake, fresh from TWSCo’s famous kitchen.

Because swimming works up an appetite.

Waterfalls & an afternoon dip

In the afternoon, we’ll swap lakes for waterfalls and take a walk through some of the Lake District’s spectacular scenery, following the water as it tumbles through the landscape.

And, naturally, we’ll be looking for the perfect waterfall for an afternoon swim.

There’s something wonderfully wild about standing beneath a Lake District waterfall before taking the plunge, and this is exactly the sort of experience this weekend is all about.

Back to the hotel

We’ll return to the hotel for showers, rewarming and some well-earned downtime.

And if conditions, daylight and enthusiasm allow, there may even be time for a sunset dip in Windermere before dinner.

Day 3: Waterfalls & One Last Adventure

Breakfast

We’ll start the final morning with breakfast at the hotel, fuelling up for one last adventure.

The big waterfall swim

Then we’ll head out into the Lake District to explore some of its famous waterfalls.

This is where things get properly wild.

We’ll find an incredible waterfall setting for a supervised open-water swim, with our qualified guides and lifeguards there to keep an eye on the group and help you make the most of the experience.

Whether you’re looking for an exhilarating final dip or simply want to experience swimming somewhere truly extraordinary, this is a spectacular way to finish the weekend.

One final slice of cake

And, of course, we’ll finish exactly as we started, with good company, beautiful surroundings and something delicious to eat.

One last slice of cake, one last look at the mountains and plenty of memories to take home.

Three days. Beautiful lakes. Wild waterfalls. Sunrise swims. Great food. Cake.

And a whole lot of swimming.

This isn’t just a swimming holiday. It’s three days of exploring some of the most beautiful landscapes in England, discovering wild swimming spots you might never find on your own, learning new skills and sharing it all with a brilliant group of like-minded people.

RETREAT FAQ

Is there a wetsuit policy?

We’ll always recommend a wetsuit, they will keep you warmer for longer and you’ll be more buoyant. We’ll be swimming in some iconic locations, wearing a wetsuit may mean that you can enjoy the swim for a little longer than you are used to. However we understand that it’s not for everyone, therefore wetsuits are always optional.

Is there a tow float policy?

When we swim on a journey, we do require all swimmers to wear tow floats. However they are also compulsory for dips in depth. This helps us manage the group and be super visible which in turn improves safety.

How do you manage safety?

All of our Guides are beach lifeguards and first aiders, all of our swim locations are carefully reccied, risk assessed and led by guides who are experienced in that location.

Are there any ability requirements?

Our swim retreats are ideally suited for complete beginners who want to try wild swimming, they are also carefully planned so as improvers and intermediate swimmers are challenged. So, come along for a float around, or complete along and swim up to 2km per day. We’ll have at least one swim coach on each of our trips.

What do I need to bring?

You don’t need to spend hundreds on specialist kit to come on a Wild Swimming Retreat, but you will need a tow float (which you can buy when you’re here!), a towel or robe and footwear that you can wear in the water. We can talk through all the posh bits and pieces on the market when you’re with us.

Do you track distances, times and temperatures?

We try not to get too hung up on times, distances and temperatures. We are just having a wonderful time in iconic places with great people. However if improving is your plan, we can help you swim up to 2km per day. We’ll also have a swim coach on every trip.
