Widemouth Bay, Cornwall

Cornwall in Spring

A wild swimming escape on Cornwall's Atlantic coast

12–14 March 2027 · Widemouth Bay, near Bude, Cornwall · From £479 per person

Imagine waking to the sound of the Atlantic, pulling on your swim kit and stepping out for a sunrise dip as the first light spills across the Cornish coast.

This is Cornwall at its wildest. The beaches are quieter, the sea is invigorating, and the first hints of spring are beginning to appear along the cliffs and coastal paths.

Join The Wild Swimming Co. for three unforgettable days exploring Cornwall's spectacular coastline, discovering hidden swimming spots and experiencing the magic of wild swimming at this special time of year.

Your own coastal hideaway

Our home for the weekend is Atlantic House at Widemouth Bay, exclusively reserved for our group. With wonderful sea views, access to a private beach and comfortable communal spaces, it's the perfect place to return to after a day of adventure.

There'll be time to warm up, share stories, enjoy a hot drink and settle in with good company. Come with friends or arrive solo,  you'll be welcomed into a friendly group of like-minded adventurers.

Wild swims, hidden places and a little Cornish magic

Over three days, we'll explore some of Cornwall's most beautiful and lesser-known swimming locations, with every adventure shaped around the conditions and the group.

  • Sunrise and sunset swims: experience the coast at its most atmospheric, when the light is beautiful and the beaches are quieter.

  • Hidden coves and tidal pools: discover extraordinary places to dip, swim and explore away from the crowds.

  • A magical waterfall dip: venture inland to a beautiful woodland setting for a completely different kind of wild swimming.

  • The Cornish coastline: enjoy dramatic sea views, fresh Atlantic air and the raw beauty of the coast as spring begins to unfold.

Whether you're happiest with a refreshing dip or keen to enjoy longer swims, our experienced guides will help you make the most of your weekend.

Incredible food, shared around the table

Great adventures deserve great food.

All your meals are included, from hearty breakfasts to delicious lunches between swims and satisfying evening meals back at the house. Expect generous, thoughtfully prepared food that fuels your adventures and gives everyone a reason to linger around the table.

Add homemade treats, hot drinks and plenty of conversation, and you've got all the ingredients for a very special weekend.

Space to adventure. Time to unwind.

This retreat is about more than getting in the water. It's about stepping away from everyday routines, breathing deeply, trying somewhere new and enjoying the simple pleasure of being outdoors.

You'll have the freedom to explore, the support of experienced swim guides and a comfortable coastal home to return to at the end of the day.

Prefer a gentler introduction? Join Rich for an informal conversation about cold-water immersion, how the body responds to cold water and what the research tells us about its potential benefits.

There's something for everyone, whether you're keen to work on your stroke or simply enjoy the sensation of being in the water.

Day 2: Coastline Adventures

Hidden coves, coastal adventures and Cornish tales

Sunrise | A morning dip on our doorstep

Start the day with a sunrise swim just outside our accommodation. There's something extraordinary about greeting the morning in the sea before the rest of the world gets going.

Morning | Discover a secret Cornish cove

After breakfast at Atlantic House, we'll head out at 10:00 am for a proper Cornish adventure.

We'll walk down to a spectacular coastal cove, choosing our destination according to the weather and sea conditions. Expect rugged scenery, dramatic Atlantic views and an invigorating swim in a beautiful setting.

This is Cornwall in spring at its finest: fresh sea air, wild landscapes and the freedom to explore somewhere special with experienced guides.

Lunch | A taste of Cornwall

After a morning outdoors, we'll stop to enjoy a traditional Cornish pasty — the perfect local lunch to fuel the afternoon's adventures.

Afternoon | Coastal paths, mythology and nature

We'll set off on a coastal walk towards a welcoming local pub, exploring the landscape, wildlife and stories that make this stretch of Cornwall so fascinating.

Expect a relaxed afternoon of fresh air, local character and a few Cornish tales along the way.

Evening | Dinner and swim safety with Rich

Return to Atlantic House for another fantastic evening meal.

After dinner, join Richard Lloyd, Royal Life Saving Society National Trainer Assessor, for an engaging and practical talk about wild swimming safety. We'll explore how to plan around tides, understand coastal hazards, assess conditions and make better decisions before getting into the water.

You'll leave with a greater understanding of the sea and the knowledge to help you enjoy future wild swimming adventures more safely.

Day 3: Pancakes & hidden waterfalls

Morning | Breakfast at Atlantic House

Enjoy a hearty breakfast with your fellow swimmers before we head out for our final adventure.

Late morning | A magical woodland waterfall dip

Our final swim takes us inland to one of The Wild Swimming Co.'s favourite spots: an incredible waterfall tucked away in a beautiful woodland setting.

Trade the open Atlantic for the peaceful atmosphere of the woods, listen to the water and immerse yourself in a completely different side of Cornwall.

It's a wonderful way to round off the weekend — one last shared adventure before heading home.

1:00 pm | Cake and carriages

RETREAT FAQ

Is there a wetsuit policy?

We’ll always recommend a wetsuit, they will keep you warmer for longer and you’ll be more buoyant. We’ll be swimming in some iconic locations, wearing a wetsuit may mean that you can enjoy the swim for a little longer than you are used to. However we understand that it’s not for everyone, therefore wetsuits are always optional.

Is there a tow float policy?

When we swim on a journey, we do require all swimmers to wear tow floats. However they are also compulsory for dips in depth. This helps us manage the group and be super visible which in turn improves safety.

How do you manage safety?

All of our Guides are beach lifeguards and first aiders, all of our swim locations are carefully reccied, risk assessed and led by guides who are experienced in that location.

Are there any ability requirements?

Our swim retreats are ideally suited for complete beginners who want to try wild swimming, they are also carefully planned so as improvers and intermediate swimmers are challenged. So, come along for a float around, or complete along and swim up to 2km per day. We’ll have at least one swim coach on each of our trips.

What do I need to bring?

You don’t need to spend hundreds on specialist kit to come on a Wild Swimming Retreat, but you will need a tow float (which you can buy when you’re here!), a towel or robe and footwear that you can wear in the water. We can talk through all the posh bits and pieces on the market when you’re with us.

Do you track distances, times and temperatures?

We try not to get too hung up on times, distances and temperatures. We are just having a wonderful time in iconic places with great people. However if improving is your plan, we can help you swim up to 2km per day. We’ll also have a swim coach on every trip.
