The Eryri (Snowdonia) Retreat

19–21 October 2027 | North Wales

Wild swims. Hidden waterfalls. Mountain magic. A beautiful Welsh hideaway.

Escape to the heart of Eryri for three unforgettable days of wild swimming, waterfalls, breathtaking landscapes and the kind of adventure that stays with you long after you've dried off.

For 2027, our much-loved Eryri Retreat is getting a beautiful new home. We're heading to elegant Plas Colwyn, an exceptional accommodation in the heart of Beddgelert, one of Snowdonia's most picturesque mountain villages.

Surrounded by dramatic peaks, ancient woodland and tumbling rivers, this is the perfect base for discovering the wild side of North Wales, with a little extra comfort to return to after a day exploring.

Discover the wild heart of Eryri

Working alongside our expert local swim guides, we'll venture beyond the usual tourist trails to uncover some of the region's most spectacular swimming spots.

Think crystal-clear mountain lakes, emerald plunge pools, hidden waterfalls and beautiful rivers winding through the Welsh landscape. Every location has its own character, from peaceful, glassy waters beneath towering mountains to invigorating dips beneath cascading falls.

We'll choose our destinations according to the weather, water levels and conditions, allowing us to make the most of whatever the mountains have in store.

Whether you're taking your first steps into wild swimming or already love exploring new waters, you'll have the chance to discover places you might never find on your own — with experienced guides helping you make the most of every adventure.

Your new mountain hideaway

This year, we're raising the bar with a stay at Elegant Plas Colwyn, right in the centre of beautiful Beddgelert.

After a day of fresh mountain air, invigorating swims and spectacular scenery, return to this wonderful setting to unwind, recharge and enjoy the company of your fellow adventurers.

Beddgelert is a destination in its own right, with its charming village atmosphere and extraordinary mountain surroundings. It's the ideal place to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the very best of Eryri.

Discover your accommodation at plascolwyn.co.uk.

Three days to switch off and dive in

This is your invitation to step away from the everyday and immerse yourself in a landscape shaped by mountains, water and wild weather.

Spend your days discovering new swimming spots, exploring the natural beauty of Eryri and sharing unforgettable moments with a small group of like-minded adventurers.

Expect invigorating dips, breathtaking views, plenty of laughter and those wonderfully simple moments when the world seems to slow down — surrounded by nature, with nowhere else you need to be.

Is this retreat for you?

Our Eryri Retreat is ideal for adventurous souls who love the outdoors, enjoy discovering new places and want to experience wild swimming in one of the UK's most spectacular national parks.

You don't need to be an experienced wild swimmer. Our guides will support you throughout the experience, and swims can be adapted to suit the location and conditions. A willingness to embrace the elements and a sense of adventure are all part of the experience.

Mountain terrain, cold water and changeable Welsh weather are all part of the wild experience, so come prepared for the outdoors.

ITINERARY (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

Day One: Mountain Lakes, Mythology & A Taste of Wild Swimming

1:00 pm – Arrive at the magical Clyndylnus

Leave the stresses of everyday life behind as we meet beside the incredible mountain lake of Llyn Dinas, just a short drive from our accommodation in Beddgelert.

Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and steeped in Welsh history and mythology, this is the perfect place to begin your Eryri adventure. Slip into the water, take a deep breath of mountain air and let the journey melt away.

Whether you're a seasoned wild swimmer or still finding your confidence in cold water, our qualified guides will help you settle in. Learn about your body's physiological response to cold water, discover practical techniques for safer swimming, or take advantage of some personalised advice from our qualified swim coaches.

There's no pressure to swim a certain distance or keep up with anyone else. This is your opportunity to get comfortable, meet your fellow adventurers and start the retreat at your own pace.

And, of course, no arrival swim would be complete without a slice of homemade cake from our famous kitchen!

Late afternoon – Settle into Elegant Plas Colwyn

We'll head to our beautiful accommodation in the heart of Beddgelert, unpack and make ourselves at home before gathering for the evening.

Dinner – A private chef experience

Tonight, Private Chef Mel will prepare a delicious dinner for the group. Share stories, get to know your fellow swimmers and enjoy the feeling of being somewhere truly special.

Sunset – A little river magic

If conditions allow, we'll venture out for a short sunset dip in a nearby river. It's a wonderful way to round off our first day in Eryri, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Welsh mountains.

Then it's back to our cosy base for a good night's rest, ready for the adventures ahead.

Day Two: Sunrise Swims, Secret Waterfalls & The Fisherman's Walk

Early morning – A sunrise dip

There's something extraordinary about swimming as the first light creeps across the mountains. We'll start the day with a sunrise dip within walking distance of our accommodation, enjoying a peaceful moment in nature before the village fully wakes.

8:30 am – A proper breakfast

Return to Plas Colwyn for a hot, freshly prepared breakfast from Private Chef Mel. Fuel up, get warm and prepare for a day exploring some of Eryri's most beautiful waters.

10:00 am – Chasing waterfalls

We'll head into the mountains for a guided adventure to discover some of Eryri's spectacular waterfalls and crystal-clear swimming spots.

Follow beautiful trails through the Welsh landscape, uncover hidden corners of the national park and discover how to access these extraordinary places responsibly.

Our qualified guides and lifeguards will supervise the swims, helping you understand the conditions, choose appropriate entry and exit points, and develop your confidence in natural water environments.

Whether you prefer a refreshing dip, a relaxed float or a little more time exploring the water, you'll be encouraged to swim at your own pace.

Lunch with a view – Homemade mountain soup

We'll pause beside the trail to enjoy a warming bowl of homemade soup, taking in the scenery before continuing our adventure.

Afternoon – Time to warm up

After a morning in the mountains and water, we'll return to our accommodation for a chance to shower, rewarm and enjoy some well-earned downtime.

Late afternoon – The famous Fisherman's Walk

Next, we'll head out on one of the area's most memorable riverside walks.

The Fisherman's Walk follows the river through beautiful scenery, with dramatic drops and cascades, impressive bridges and ever-changing views of the surrounding landscape. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience the quieter side of Eryri on foot.

We'll finish our walk at a welcoming local pub, where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere before heading back.

Evening – Dinner and water safety

Private Chef Mel will prepare another delicious dinner for the group.

Afterwards, join Rich, our National Lifeguard Trainer Assessor, for one of our much-loved water safety talks. Learn more about cold water, recognising hazards, making sensible decisions around natural swimming locations and enjoying wild swimming more safely.

It's practical knowledge that will stay with you long after the retreat ends.

Day Three: One Last Wild Swim & Sweet Goodbyes

8:30 am – The ultimate pancake breakfast

Wake up to an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast prepared by Private Chef Mel. Fill your boots, enjoy a final morning with the group and get ready for one last adventure.

Morning – Your final Eryri swim

For our final outing, we'll choose between two incredible experiences, taking account of the weather, water conditions and the group's interests and abilities.

Weather option 1: A final waterfall swim

Return to the beautiful waterfalls of Eryri for one last chance to immerse yourself in the clear mountain water and enjoy the extraordinary surroundings.

Weather option two: Swim towards Elephant Rock

For suitable conditions and swimmers, we may head to the dramatic waters of Glyn Gwynedd, with the opportunity to swim towards the striking Elephant Rock. With its spectacular mountain setting, this is a memorable way to finish our retreat.

Our qualified guides will lead the adventure, with the emphasis on swimming within your ability, building confidence and enjoying the experience rather than chasing distances.

Whether your personal goal is to feel more comfortable in cold water, improve your technique or simply experience a remarkable place, we'll help you make the most of your final swim.

12:00–1:00 pm – Cake, coffee and goodbyes

We'll finish as we began: together, sharing stories, enjoying a final slice of homemade cake and reflecting on three extraordinary days in Eryri.

By 1:00 pm, it's time to say goodbye to your new swimming friends, with wonderful memories, fresh confidence and a head full of mountain adventures.

RETREAT FAQ

Is there a wetsuit policy?

We’ll always recommend a wetsuit, they will keep you warmer for longer and you’ll be more buoyant. We’ll be swimming in some iconic locations, wearing a wetsuit may mean that you can enjoy the swim for a little longer than you are used to. However we understand that it’s not for everyone, therefore wetsuits are always optional.

Is there a tow float policy?

When we swim on a journey, we do require all swimmers to wear tow floats. However they are also compulsory for dips in depth. This helps us manage the group and be super visible which in turn improves safety.

How do you manage safety?

All of our Guides are beach lifeguards and first aiders, all of our swim locations are carefully reccied, risk assessed and led by guides who are experienced in that location.

Are there any ability requirements?

Our swim retreats are ideally suited for complete beginners who want to try wild swimming, they are also carefully planned so as improvers and intermediate swimmers are challenged. So, come along for a float around, or complete along and swim up to 2km per day. We’ll have at least one swim coach on each of our trips.

What do I need to bring?

You don’t need to spend hundreds on specialist kit to come on a Wild Swimming Retreat, but you will need a tow float (which you can buy when you’re here!), a towel or robe and footwear that you can wear in the water. We can talk through all the posh bits and pieces on the market when you’re with us.

Do you track distances, times and temperatures?

We try not to get too hung up on times, distances and temperatures. We are just having a wonderful time in iconic places with great people. However if improving is your plan, we can help you swim up to 2km per day. We’ll also have a swim coach on every trip.
