Dorset

Join us as we embark on a truly transformative journey along The South West Coast Path, beginning at Lulworth Cove, Dorset.

Inspired by the film, The Salt Path, based on Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir, we invite you to experience the resilience, love, and rediscovery that made their 630-mile walk so iconic. Like Raynor and Moth, who found solace and healing in the face of hardship, you’ll have the opportunity to reconnect with nature and find your own sense of purpose.

We’ll take care of every detail, from your campsite booking, transport, wholesome meals to qualified walking guides, all backed by meticulous planning, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery.

You can choose to carry just a rucksack for the day and we’ll handle the rest, or carry everything yourself for the full Salt Path experience.

Our Lowland Leader qualified guides will be on hand to help you source the most suitable kit in the lead-up to the event so you’re fully prepared.

And of course, we’ll be pausing for invigorating swims in some of the most stunning and secluded wild locations along the coast.

Depending on group ability and pace, we’ll likely walk from Lulworth Cove to Bowleaze Cove on Day 1, Bowleaze Cove to Portland on Day 2, and finally hiking to Chesil Cove on Day 3.

Discover the magic of the Jurassic Coast and find your own path to healing and adventure.

ITINERARY (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

Day One – Lulworth Cove to Bowleaze Cove

Arrive at beautiful Lulworth Cove, where we'll welcome you with a hot drink, a slice of homemade cake, and a comprehensive safety briefing before setting out on our adventure.

Our journey begins along one of the most spectacular stretches of the South West Coast Path. Climbing above the cove, we'll make our way towards the world-famous Durdle Door, where we'll stop for our first sea dip beneath this iconic limestone arch. Take in the dramatic scenery, crystal-clear water, and the sense of freedom that comes from immersing yourself in one of Britain's most photographed coastal locations.

After drying off, we'll continue east along the Jurassic Coast, following rolling limestone cliffs and enjoying breathtaking sea views. Our day concludes at Bowleaze Cove, where we'll enjoy a final refreshing dip before transferring to Sweet Hill Farm, our home for the next two nights.

Settle into your accommodation before gathering in the communal marquee for a delicious home-cooked dinner and a relaxed evening with your fellow adventurers.

Day Two – Bowleaze Cove to Portland

After a hearty breakfast, we'll return to Bowleaze Cove and continue our journey west along the coast.

Today's walk takes us through the heart of Weymouth, where golden sands, colourful beach huts, and bustling seaside life provide a change of scenery from the wild cliffs of the previous day. Here we'll stop for a refreshing dip and, of course, an ice cream.

Refuelled and refreshed, we'll continue around the vast expanse of Portland Harbour, following the coastline towards the Isle of Portland. As the landscape becomes increasingly rugged, we'll climb towards the top of the island, rewarded with stunning panoramic views across Lyme Bay and the Jurassic Coast.

After completing the day's walk, we'll return to Sweet Hill Farm for another delicious dinner. For those looking to soothe tired legs, optional sauna sessions will be available throughout the evening.

Day Three – Around the Isle of Portland

Following breakfast, we'll set out to explore one of Dorset's most dramatic coastal landscapes.

Our route takes us around the iconic Portland Bill, passing the famous lighthouse and rugged limestone shoreline that has shaped the island's history for centuries. Here we'll enjoy a memorable dip from the ledges into some of the clearest, most vibrant water on the south coast.

Continuing along the coastal path, we'll discover hidden coves, towering cliffs, and sweeping sea views before arriving at our final swim destination: Chesil Cove. Looking west across the water, on a clear day it feels as though Devon and Cornwall are within touching distance. This legendary stretch of coastline provides a fitting setting for our final dip together.

Afterwards, we'll celebrate our achievement with one last slice of homemade cake before saying our goodbyes, leaving with tired legs, salty skin, new friendships, and unforgettable memories of Dorset's spectacular coastline.

RETREAT FAQ

Is there a wetsuit policy?

We’ll always recommend a wetsuit, they will keep you warmer for longer and you’ll be more buoyant. We’ll be swimming in some iconic locations, wearing a wetsuit may mean that you can enjoy the swim for a little longer than you are used to. However we understand that it’s not for everyone, therefore wetsuits are always optional.

Is there a tow float policy?

When we swim on a journey, we do require all swimmers to wear tow floats. However they are also compulsory for dips in depth. This helps us manage the group and be super visible which in turn improves safety.

How do you manage safety?

All of our Guides are beach lifeguards and first aiders, all of our swim locations are carefully reccied, risk assessed and led by guides who are experienced in that location.

Are there any ability requirements?

Our swim retreats are ideally suited for complete beginners who want to try wild swimming, they are also carefully planned so as improvers and intermediate swimmers are challenged. So, come along for a float around, or complete along and swim up to 2km per day. We’ll have at least one swim coach on each of our trips.

What do I need to bring?

You don’t need to spend hundreds on specialist kit to come on a Wild Swimming Retreat, but you will need a tow float (which you can buy when you’re here!), a towel or robe and footwear that you can wear in the water. We can talk through all the posh bits and pieces on the market when you’re with us.

Do you track distances, times and temperatures?

We try not to get too hung up on times, distances and temperatures. We are just having a wonderful time in iconic places with great people. However if improving is your plan, we can help you swim up to 2km per day. We’ll also have a swim coach on every trip.
