The Wild Within

A Three-Day Re-wilding Retreat

Switch off. Strip back. Reconnect.

Three days. Two nights. Fire, water, woodland and a little more wildness.

Imagine waking to birdsong instead of an alarm. Brewing your morning coffee over an open fire. Taking a dip in a private woodland lake before the rest of the world has woken up. Spending your days exploring wild places, learning ancient skills and discovering the simple pleasure of living closer to nature.

Welcome to The Wild Within, a brand-new rewilding retreat by The Wild Swimming Co. & The Bushcraft Bus.

Tucked away in our private woodland site in Studland, Dorset, with beautiful views across Poole Harbour, this is your invitation to step away from the noise of modern life and reconnect with the natural world.

For three days, we'll trade screens for skies, artificial light for firelight and busy schedules for the natural rhythm of daylight. We'll swim, forage, learn, cook, explore and gather around the campfire, rediscovering the things that make us feel wonderfully alive.

And with our friends at the Bushcraft Bus bringing their expertise in traditional outdoor skills, you'll have the chance to get hands-on, learn something new and discover just how rewarding a simpler way of living can be.

No bushcraft experience needed. No pressure to be an expert outdoors. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to get a little wild.

A different kind of escape

Fire. Our ancient gathering point.

The campfire will be at the heart of our retreat. Together, we'll learn how to keep it burning safely, brew our teas and coffees over the flames and cook delicious meals outdoors. As the evening draws in, we'll gather around the fire, share stories and enjoy the rare pleasure of being truly present.

Water. Your daily dose of wild.

With our own private lake on site, wild swimming is woven into the rhythm of the retreat. Start your morning with an invigorating dip, return to the water as the day winds down, and join us on adventures to discover beautiful natural swimming spots around the local coastline and countryside.

From woodland waters to hidden coastal gems, we'll explore some of the places that make this corner of Dorset so special. All swims are optional and guided according to conditions and the group's needs.

Skills. Rediscover your resourcefulness.

Working alongside the Bushcraft Bus, we'll explore the skills our ancestors relied upon to live in the natural world. Learn traditional fire-lighting techniques, whittle your own wooden creation, discover natural materials and develop practical bushcraft skills.

This is about doing, making and learning, not simply watching from the sidelines. You'll leave with new skills, a handmade memento and a fresh appreciation for what you can achieve with your own two hands.

Food. From the land to the fire.

Foraging will be an important part of our adventure. With expert guidance, we'll discover suitable wild ingredients and explore how they can be incorporated into our meals.

We'll prepare food together, cook over the fire and share a memorable communal feast beneath the trees. And don't worry if foraging isn't your thing: there will be delicious alternatives, with dietary requirements catered for as agreed in advance.

Stillness. The freedom to switch off.

What if you put your phone away for a while? What if you let the daylight guide your day, spent an hour simply wandering through the woodland, or sat beside the lake with absolutely nothing you needed to do?

Throughout the retreat, you'll have the opportunity to embrace a slower pace, enjoy optional phone-free time and reconnect with the world immediately around you.

No packed timetable. No pressure to participate in everything. Just time and space to breathe.

Your woodland home

Our private campsite is tucked away among the trees in beautiful Studland, overlooking Poole Harbour. With our own private lake, a woodland campfire and nature on our doorstep, it's the perfect setting to escape the everyday.

And while we're embracing a simpler way of living, we're not abandoning the essentials.

You'll have access to hot showers and flushing toilets, with two ways to camp:

  • Bring your own tent: bring your camping setup and make yourself at home in the woodland.

  • Book a pre-pitched tent: arrive to find your tent ready and a bed waiting for you. Simply bring your sleeping bag and pillows.

However you choose to stay, you'll share the same experiences, adventures and campfire moments.

Who is this retreat for?

The Wild Within is for anyone who feels the pull of the outdoors and wants to spend more meaningful time in nature.

Perhaps you spend too much time looking at screens. Perhaps life has become a little too busy. Maybe you love wild swimming and want to explore a different side of the outdoors, or you're curious about bushcraft, foraging and learning skills you never had the opportunity to try.

You don't need to be an experienced camper, a seasoned swimmer or a bushcraft expert.

You simply need to be open to new experiences, comfortable with a woodland camping environment and happy to get involved at your own pace.

Come as you are. Leave a little wilder.

This is more than a weekend away. It's an opportunity to rediscover the simple pleasures of life outdoors: the warmth of a fire, the freshness of a morning swim, the satisfaction of making something yourself and the connection that comes from sharing an experience with others.

You'll leave with new skills, memories of beautiful wild places and perhaps a renewed appreciation for the world beyond your front door.

And who knows? You might discover that the wild you've been looking for has been there all along.

RETREAT FAQ

Is there a wetsuit policy?

We’ll always recommend a wetsuit, they will keep you warmer for longer and you’ll be more buoyant. We’ll be swimming in some iconic locations, wearing a wetsuit may mean that you can enjoy the swim for a little longer than you are used to. However we understand that it’s not for everyone, therefore wetsuits are always optional.

Is there a tow float policy?

When we swim on a journey, we do require all swimmers to wear tow floats. However they are also compulsory for dips in depth. This helps us manage the group and be super visible which in turn improves safety.

How do you manage safety?

All of our Guides are beach lifeguards and first aiders, all of our swim locations are carefully reccied, risk assessed and led by guides who are experienced in that location.

Are there any ability requirements?

Our swim retreats are ideally suited for complete beginners who want to try wild swimming, they are also carefully planned so as improvers and intermediate swimmers are challenged. So, come along for a float around, or complete along and swim up to 2km per day. We’ll have at least one swim coach on each of our trips.

What do I need to bring?

You don’t need to spend hundreds on specialist kit to come on a Wild Swimming Retreat, but you will need a tow float (which you can buy when you’re here!), a towel or robe and footwear that you can wear in the water. We can talk through all the posh bits and pieces on the market when you’re with us.

Do you track distances, times and temperatures?

We try not to get too hung up on times, distances and temperatures. We are just having a wonderful time in iconic places with great people. However if improving is your plan, we can help you swim up to 2km per day. We’ll also have a swim coach on every trip.
